St Mary's, Green St Green, Kent

A 1960’s church with a clear glass cross in the sanctuary.

The commission brief was to produce a design which brought colour into the church.

I have created an etched glazing scheme. To create a subtle colour change the window is divided into panels. Each panel has two layers of glass which have been acid etched and then plated together. The plating and etching help to create a gradual colour change through yellow and reds and blues.

The results are bright vivid colour flooding through the narrow stonework opening filling the sanctuary with rich warm light.

In 2010 I was also asked to make a small copy of the window which would then be mounted into a processional cross. The cross has been designed and made by Ian Parker.
